More Public Hunting Land Coming to Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania hunters are in for some good news—2,000 acres of new public hunting land will soon be available across the state. Thanks to a combination of land donations and purchases, these additions will expand access to prime hunting grounds, improve habitat for game species, and open up fresh territory for sportsmen and women.

Expanding Hunting Opportunities

With public land access becoming increasingly valuable, any expansion is a major win. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has approved multiple land acquisitions across a dozen counties, from the northwest corner of the state down to the eastern region. These additions provide more space for hunters, enhance habitat conservation, and increase opportunities to pursue deer, turkey, waterfowl, and small game.

Key Additions to Game Lands

One of the most exciting developments is the creation of Game Lands 340 in Chester County, thanks to a land donation that will establish a new public hunting area. Situated in the Serpentine Barrens, this property features rare grassland habitat that will be managed for wildlife.

Several existing state game lands are also expanding:

  • Clearfield County: Nearly 1,000 acres will be added to State Game Land No. 331, creating additional habitat for elk and other wildlife.
  • Erie County: A 33-acre wetland near State Game Land No. 109 will provide critical habitat for waterfowl and other species.
  • Schuylkill County: A 119-acre expansion to State Game Land No. 229 will enhance pheasant hunting opportunities, benefiting upland bird hunters.
