Idaho hunters can now start planning their 2026–2027 migratory bird season with confidence. Shortly after the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) published its 2026–2027 Migratory Game Bird Seasons and Rules Digest, Hunterizer updated the app with the latest season dates, regulations, and hunting zone maps for all of the state’s major migratory game birds.

Important Changes for the 2026–2027 Season
Idaho’s new migratory bird regulations include several changes hunters should know before heading afield.
One of the most significant updates affects White-fronted Goose and Light Goose hunting in northern Idaho. Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, and Shoshone counties are no longer part of Area 2. Instead, they have been moved into the newly created Area 4, resulting in different season dates and regulations for hunters in the Idaho Panhandle.
Sandhill crane hunters will also benefit from expanded opportunities this year. Idaho Fish and Game approved additional controlled hunts and increased tag availability in several hunt areas, giving more hunters the chance to pursue one of North America’s premier migratory game birds. Hunters should review the specific requirements and application details for their hunt area before the season begins.
The new digest also includes updates to several waterfowl season structures and hunt area configurations that were developed using recent hunter survey feedback. These adjustments are intended to better align season timing with bird migrations while improving hunting opportunities across the state.
