Idaho Controlled Hunt Application Deadline Approaching: June 5 Last Chance for Deer, Elk, Pronghorn, Bear and Turkey Hunts

See what you can hunt at your location in the Hunterizer Seasons app.

Idaho hunters who plan to pursue controlled hunts this fall should mark June 5 on their calendars. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s application period for fall 2026 controlled hunts closes at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on June 5. Applications opened May 1 and cover a wide range of species, including mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, pronghorn, fall black bear, fall turkey and swan hunts.

Controlled hunts provide access to limited-entry opportunities in areas where tag numbers are restricted to manage wildlife populations and hunting pressure. Some of Idaho’s most desirable elk, mule deer and pronghorn tags are available only through the controlled hunt drawing. Idaho uses a random draw system and does not have preference or bonus points, meaning every applicant starts with the same odds each year.

Hunters must possess a valid 2026 Idaho hunting license before applying. Applications can be submitted online through Idaho Fish and Game’s licensing system. Results for most controlled hunts are expected to be posted in early July, giving successful applicants time to purchase their tags and prepare for the fall seasons.

The June 5 deadline also applies to applications for fall swan controlled hunts in Idaho’s Panhandle Region. Successful swan applicants are expected to be notified by July 10.

Hunters who draw a controlled hunt tag should remember that most tags must be purchased by August 1. Tags not claimed by the deadline are returned to the pool and may become available through Idaho’s second controlled hunt drawing later in the summer.

For hunters still deciding where to apply, the Hunterizer app includes Idaho’s 2026 hunting seasons and regulations. Hunters can see what species are open in any location on any day of the year, along with season dates, weapon restrictions, bag limits, shooting hours, license requirements, hunter orange requirements and after-harvest regulations. The app also includes hunting zone maps to help hunters plan their fall hunts across the state.

With the application deadline just days away, Idaho hunters interested in premium elk, deer, pronghorn, bear or turkey opportunities should submit their applications before June 5 and avoid missing out on the 2026 drawing.

As you prepare for the upcoming season, don’t forget to check the Hunterizer app. Idaho hunters can use Hunterizer’s “What Can I Hunt Today?” feature to instantly see which species are open on any date and at any location in the state, along with season dates, weapon restrictions, bag limits, shooting hours, hunter orange requirements, license and tag requirements, after-harvest regulations, and hunting zone maps. Hunterizer can also help hunters stay on top of important deadlines throughout the year, including controlled hunt applications, tag purchase deadlines, and season openings, ensuring you don’t miss an opportunity before heading afield. With Idaho’s 2026 seasons and regulations already available in the app, hunters can spend less time sorting through regulations and more time planning their next hunt.

The Hunterizer app is available for iPhone in the App Store and for Android devices in Google Play. More information is available at https://hunterizer.com/apps/seasons/.
