Idaho Fish and Game Alerts Hunters: Beware of AI Misinformation
Published: October 16, 2025
If you’re planning a hunting trip in Idaho, it’s crucial to arm yourself with the right information. Idaho Fish and Game is issuing a critical warning to hunters: relying on artificial intelligence for hunting regulations could land you in hot water.
Recent findings show that some hunters have received citations after following incorrect information sourced from AI search engines. Roger Phillips from Idaho Fish and Game highlights that these engines often provide outdated or misleading details regarding permits and hunting dates. In some cases, AI has confused Idaho’s regulations with those from other states with similar landmarks, leading to misinterpretations of the rules.
“AI doesn’t discriminate when it comes to sourcing its information. It casts a wide net and can draw inaccurate conclusions,” Phillips cautions. The reality is that hunters who act on misinformation from AI will still face penalties for their actions. He stresses the importance of accurate information, noting, “We can’t have everyone using the excuse of, ‘Well, I found it online, and it said something different.’”
While most experienced hunters are well-versed in the rules, the Idaho Fish and Game recommends steering clear of AI and third-party sources altogether. Instead, hunters should consult official resources to ensure they have the most reliable and up-to-date information. You can find comprehensive details about hunting regulations, tags, and seasons on the Idaho Fish and Game’s official website or in their printed booklets.
Stay informed and hunt safely!
