WACO, Texas (KWTX) — A man from Waco was arrested on Sunday after a game camera caught him hunting without permission on Baylor University property, as detailed in an affidavit.
Authorities reported that Texas Game Warden Michael Serbanic received an image from a game camera situated on Baylor property near Garden and Donaldson Drive. The photo depicted a white man in coveralls holding a rifle.
In response, Serbanic arrived at the property around 3:30 p.m. with additional units, including Warden Delgado. A deputy from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office utilized a drone to capture a thermal image of the suspect near the camera’s location while officers established a perimeter around the area.
Officers showed the game camera image to a resident on Donaldson Lane, who recognized the man as William Strasser and directed the officers to his home nearby. Delgado observed and identified Strasser, subsequently detaining him.
Strasser confessed to hunting deer without permission on Baylor property and offered to show the officers where he had hidden his rifle. He led them to an abandoned vehicle near the property off Donaldson Lane, where they found a loaded .30-06 caliber rifle concealed under items in the back seat.
Baylor police confirmed that Strasser did not have permission to hunt on the property or to enter with a firearm, and a non-consent form was signed by a Baylor officer.
William Strasser was booked into McLennan County Jail on charges of hunting without landowner consent and criminal trespass with a firearm.
