Montana FWP Invites Public Input on Hunting Regulations for Deer, Elk, and Black Bear

NBC Montana Staff

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is reaching out to the public for feedback on proposed changes to the hunting regulations for deer, elk, and black bear for the 2026–2027 seasons.

These proposals will be presented to the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission for a final decision during their meeting on December 4.

FWP emphasizes that the biennial process of setting hunting seasons is a comprehensive effort that spans several months, aimed at identifying potential regulatory changes. The agency actively seeks input from hunters, landowners, and the general public through scoping meetings and opportunities for public comment.

To facilitate this, FWP will conduct meetings throughout the state to discuss the proposals and answer any questions. Each meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., and those held at FWP regional offices will offer a virtual participation option. More information and links for online attendance can be found on the FWP website.
